We’re Thinking Outside the Bach’s

J.S. Bach was a man for his times. A revolutionary, he wrote cutting-edge music that demanded new instruments, new performance practice, and a new musical sensibility. Drawing on the aesthetics, math and technology of his time, he took music to new heights and new depths.

At Commonwealth Orchestra Outreach Project we celebrate Bach for his genius and revolutionary spirit and take our example from that.

• We are an orchestra for our times, the cutting edge of music today.
• We reflect our society and our culture through the music we play, discover and commission.
• We are musicians who represent our diverse, free-minded society, playing on instruments that reflect our technology and our understanding of the timelessness of symphonic music.
• We are educators concerned about our society and our children. We know that participation in music is a great healer, community strengthener and character builder.

And yet, the structure, the sensibility, the musicality, the artistic reach all come from “inside the Bach’s,” so to speak. We borrow from all generations that came before while we remain musicians for our times.

There is no orchestra that we know of in the world today that exists specifically to present new music reflective of our society today. That’s why it’s so important that you help us get it off the ground, because you’re the society we’re reflecting.
